Aver — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 22 August 2026

Aver turns podcast episodes into a feed of specific, checkable claims. This policy explains exactly what the app collects, why, and how to get rid of it. It describes what the software actually does, not what we might do one day.

Aver is operated by an individual developer. For anything in this policy, contact pseidkarbasi@gmail.com.

The short version

  • You can use Aver without an account, and without giving us anything.
  • There are no advertising trackers, no third-party analytics services, and no data brokers. Nothing about you is sold or shared for advertising.
  • The only personal detail we ever hold is an email address, and only if you choose to create an account.
  • Usage analytics are anonymous and can be switched off inside the app.
  • You can delete your account and everything attached to it from inside the app, at any time.

What we collect, and when

1. If you create an account — your email address

An account exists for one reason: to sync your saved claims between your devices. Saving works perfectly well without one.

When you sign up we store your email address and a securely hashed password in Amazon Cognito. We never see your password. We do not use your email for marketing and there is no mailing list.

2. If you save claims — a list of which ones

Saved claims are stored on your device. If you are signed in, the list is also stored on our servers so it can reach your other devices. The list is only identifiers of claims — it does not contain anything you have written.

3. Anonymous usage analytics — on by default, switchable off

To understand whether the app is any good, it reports events such as: a claim was shown, a claim was left and how much of the narration had played, a claim was saved, shared, or its source opened, and which topics you follow.

These events carry a claim identifier, a topic, and timings. They do not carry your name, your email, an account identifier, an advertising identifier, or anything you typed. They are not tied to you, and they are aggregated into counts rather than kept as a per-person history.

You can turn this off at any time under Saved → Share usage data. When it is off, nothing is recorded — not “collected but not sent”.

4. If you send feedback — what you write

If you use “Send feedback” or report a claim, we receive the message you wrote, the app version, and — if you are reporting a claim — which claim it was. You may optionally add an email address so we can reply; that field is always blank until you type in it, and is never filled in from your account.

Feedback is delivered to us as an email. It is not stored in a database.

Please do not include health information, or anything else sensitive, that you would not want in an email inbox.

5. Technical logs

Our servers keep standard access logs: the time of a request, which part of the service was called, the response, your IP address, and — for signed-in requests — an opaque account identifier that is not your email. These logs exist to keep the service working and secure. They are automatically deleted after 30 days.

What we never collect

No contacts, no location, no photos, no microphone or camera access, no health-app data, no device or advertising identifiers, no cross-app or cross-site tracking, and no third-party advertising or analytics SDKs of any kind. Aver does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites, and does not ask for permission to, because it has no use for it.

Why we are allowed to hold it

If you are in the UK, EU, or another region with similar law: we rely on contract for your account and saved list (you asked us to sync them), and on legitimate interests for anonymous analytics and security logs — keeping the service working and knowing whether it is useful. Where consent is the correct basis for analytics, the in-app toggle is how you give or withdraw it.

Who else sees it

We use Amazon Web Services to run the service. Your data is stored in the United States (AWS region us-east-1). AWS processes it on our instructions and does not use it for its own purposes.

Audio narration is generated using Amazon Polly, and claims are extracted from publicly published podcast episodes using Amazon Bedrock. Neither process involves your personal data — they run on podcast content, before you ever open the app.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. We have never done so.

We may disclose information if legally required to, or to protect the service against abuse.

How long we keep it

WhatHow long
Account and emailUntil you delete your account
Saved claims listUntil you unsave them or delete your account
Access logs30 days, then deleted automatically
Database backupsRolling 35 days
Anonymous usage countsUp to 15 months, in aggregate only — these are not linked to you and cannot be traced back to you
Feedback emailsKept in our inbox until no longer needed

Deleting your account

Open Saved and choose Delete account. This immediately and permanently removes your account and your saved list from our servers and from the device. It cannot be undone.

If you cannot reach the app, email pseidkarbasi@gmail.com from your account’s address and we will do it for you.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how it is used, take it elsewhere, and — in the EU/UK — complain to your data protection authority. Because the only personal data we hold is an email address and a list of saved claim identifiers, most of these are satisfied by the in-app delete. For anything else, email us. We will respond within 30 days and will not charge you or treat you differently for asking.

Children

Aver is not directed at children and is rated 12+. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will delete it.

Security

Traffic is encrypted in transit with HTTPS, and data is encrypted at rest by AWS. Sign-in tokens are held in the iOS Keychain rather than ordinary app storage. No system is perfect, and we will tell affected users promptly if something goes wrong.

A note on health content

Aver surfaces claims made by other people on podcasts, including claims about hormones, supplements, medication and training. Aver does not endorse or verify them and is not medical advice. Which topics you follow, and which claims you save, can reveal what you are researching about your own health. That is exactly why analytics are anonymous, why the reply-address field is never pre-filled, and why you can turn analytics off entirely.

Changes

If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top and note the change in the app. Continuing to use Aver after a change means you accept the updated policy.
